In June 2022, the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State asked the Chief Inspector of Probation to undertake an independent review into how the Probation Service managed Joshua Jacques, as he was under probation supervision when he was arrested for these offences. This review was completed in November 2022 and can now be published following the completion of criminal proceedings.
Bracknell Forest Youth Justice Team (YJT) has received an overall rating of ‘Good’ following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation as part of its programme of Youth Justice Service (YJS) inspections.
Brighton and East Sussex Probation Delivery Unit (PDU) has received an overall rating of ‘Requires improvement’ following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation.
West Sussex Probation Delivery Unit (PDU) has received an overall rating of ‘Inadequate’ following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation. This follows the PDU’s last inspection in 2022, when the service was also rated ‘Inadequate’.
Nottinghamshire Youth Justice Service (YJS) has received an overall rating of ‘Good’ following an inspection led by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation, conducted jointly with HM Inspectorate of Constabulary, Fire and Rescue (HMICFRS) and the Care Quality Commission.
A thematic inspection led by HM Inspectorate of Probation investigated the effectiveness of the arrangements to support Senior Probation Officers (SPOs) working in sentence management and in court teams. The report, The role of the senior probation officer and management oversight in the Probation Service, published on 18 January 2024, also focuses on management oversight, the processes taken by SPOs to make sure that probation work is undertaken to the required standard.
