As the Sentencing Act receives royal assent, our Chief Inspector shares his thoughts on next steps and announces the publication of the Inspectorate’s first Dynamic Inspection of Public Protection report

Probation services in the Wales region of the Probation Service have received an overall regional rating of ‘Requires improvement’ by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation. 

Lambeth Youth Justice Service (YJS) has received an overall rating of ‘Good’ following an inspection of work with children and victims by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation.

Ahead of the publication of our 2026/2027 Corporate Plan, we would like to share some Inspectorate highlights from 2025.

St Catherine’s Priory Approved Premises (AP) in Guildford, South East has received an overall rating of ‘Good’ following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation.

Eden House Approved Premises (AP) in Bristol has received an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’ following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation. Eden House is a women-only and independent AP.

HM Inspectorate of Probation has published its fourth annual report of Serious Further Offence (SFO) reviews [see notes to editor]. This year’s findings show no improvement from last year and highlight an increasing backlog of overdue reviews.

Cardiff and the Vale Probation Delivery Unit (PDU) has received an overall rating of ‘Inadequate’ following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation.  

Gwent Probation Delivery Unit (PDU) has received an overall rating of ‘Requires improvement’ following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation.

South Gloucestershire Youth Justice Service (YJS) has received an overall rating of ‘Good’ following an inspection of work with children and victims by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation.
