Towards effective practice with black, Asian and minority ethnic people on probation

Chief Inspector of Probation Justin Russell, HM Inspectors Avtar Singh and Trevor Worsfold, and Muslim women in prison project coordinator Sofia Buncy provide an overview of the thematic inspection, identify markers of effective practice with individual service users and offer an overview of four case studies. These look specifically at getting the conversation started, the importance of developing cultural understanding, respecting and understanding differences and building a trusting relationship. They discuss the AIR network’s mentoring services and Sofia Buncy provides an overview of the ‘Muslim women in prison project: A culturally informed grass roots model’.

Finally, the event identifies what works well for staff and provides an overview of a case study regarding inclusive practice with staff and support in the workplace.
