This document is between the Ministry of Justice, HM Prison and Probation Service and HM Inspectorate of Probation.

It sets out a clear and unified approach to oversight of the probation system as from the introduction of the inspectorate’s new inspection methodology from August 2023. It sets out for probation services and for the wider public the oversight model, its key working relationships and underlying principles, as well as the key aspirations for the oversight of probation.
