This accessibility statement applies to HM Inspectorate of Probation website https://www.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/hmiprobation/
This website is run by the HMI Probation Communications Team.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- use browser settings or plugins to change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- use browser settings or other software to zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
The HMI Probation Communications Team is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
The cookie button text may not make sense to some users. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.4: Link Purpose (In Context). We plan to fix this by July 2025.
Throughout the site and within documents, images have been used to present text or graphical information. In some cases alt text has been provided, however this is lenghty to accommodate the information presented. This fails success criterion 1.4.5 Images of Text. We plan to fix this by March 2026.
Youtube videos are used throughout the site and although they have closed captions this does not cover a description of the information presented on screen within the slides and no text alternative has been provided. This fails success criterion 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded). We plan to fix this by March 2026.
Lots of documents are in non-HTML formats, for example PDF. They are not accessible in a number of ways including missing text alternatives and missing document structure. We plan to fix this by March 2027.
The language is not correctly identified on the Welsh pages. This means screen readers will not read content correctly. This fails WCAG success criterion 3.1.2 Language of Parts.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
Our team reviews accessibility for all the websites built using this system and we aim to fix any issues we find.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 12th March 2025. It was last reviewed on 12th March 2025. This website was last tested on 12th March 2025.
The test was carried out by the MoJ Website Builder Team. They carried out a basic review and not a full audit. The system used to produce the site (called ‘Website Builder’) has been audited in the past and all issues found then were fixed.
We used this approach to decide on a sample of pages to test – we tested all of the most common pages:
- the home page
- a page for each of the templates in use on the site
- a navigation index page
