Using examples of effective practice from within our core adult and youth inspections and the thematic programme, we have developed a range of effective practice guides and resources.
These materials are aimed at a range of audiences; they are intended to support practitioners, middle managers and strategic leaders to reflect on their own experiences and consider how they may apply the key learning points in their own contexts.
If you are a probation or youth justice practitioner, we would like to hear what you think of these materials, including any suggested improvements. Please send your ideas to Helen.Amor@hmiprobation.gov.uk (E-mail address).
In this guide, we present examples of effective practice that supported successful recruitment, ensured continuous professional development opportunities for staff and promoted positive retention in teams.
This Regional Effective Practice Spotlight highlights some of the 140 examples of strong probation practice from across Yorkshire and the Humber, including multi-agency work, resettlement, and interventions.
Throughout the guide, we explore what effective practice looks like against our standards. It is designed to help commissioners and providers improve their work with young adults in the criminal justice system who are serving community and custodial sentences.
In this guide, we examine: the key principles of management oversight, operational delivery in sentence management, and look at the senior probation officer (SPO) role in great detail as it is so central to effective management oversight.
This guide has been designed to explore effective and developing practice in relation to youth remand for both youth justice services and their operational and strategic partners.
This guide has been designed to help managers and practitioners reflect on how best to improve the experience of Black, Asian, and ethnic minority staff and people on probation.
