HM Inspectorate of Probation welcomes new Chief Operating Officer, Faith Geary
HM Inspectorate of Probation has today welcomed Faith Geary as Chief Operating Officer. Faith has spent her career working in the justice sector, delivering strategic initiatives, continuous improvement and change programmes across the Ministry of Justice.
Faith joins the Inspectorate from her role as Chief Operating Officer of the Parole Board where she navigated the organisation through the Covid-19 pandemic and transformed the organisation’s operating model, before being promoted to Interim Chief Executive Officer in 2024, where she reduced pressure on overcrowded prisons by reducing parole backlogs by more than 60 per cent.
Before that, as the Board’s Director of Business Improvement, she led the digital transformation of operations and delivered projects to increase the transparency of the Board’s work for victims.
Martin Jones, HM Chief Inspector of Probation, said: “Faith’s journey over the past decade has shone a light on her inspiring leadership and has solidified her reputation as a strategic thinker and effective collaborator. I know she shares my passion for driving improvement across the justice sector and look forward to working with her as we continue to deliver insight and change.”
Earlier this year HM Inspectorate of Probation completed a national inspection of probation services, reviewing how effectively HM Prison and Probation Service is working to support, enable, and drive the delivery of probation services in England & Wales; and from October 2025, the Inspectorate will be launching six months of dynamic inspection activity focused solely on the Probation Service’s delivery of public protection, across all 12 probation regions.
As Chief Operating Officer at HM Inspectorate of Probation, Faith is accountable for the delivery of a range of inspection programmes across probation and youth justice, ensuring inspection ratings and reports are based on reliable, consistent, and evidence-led judgements. She will also have a significant focus on day-to-day leadership within the Inspectorate, as well as maximising service delivery and accountability for stakeholders across the sector and beyond.
Faith Geary said: “HM Inspectorate of Probation plays a vital role in protecting the public by improving standards in probation and youth justice services. I am delighted to be taking on this new role at a critical time for the justice sector, and as the Government works to implement the Sentencing Bill introduced earlier this month. Our scrutiny will play an essential role in delivering this reformational work, and I look forward to establishing a legacy our organisation can take pride in.”
