Specific types of delivery

Earlier sections of this evidence resource cover the research evidence underpinning effective supervision and delivery in relation to specific needs, highlighting the importance of supportive, individualised, developmentally-appropriate, and holistic responses when working with children. Attention now turns to specific types of delivery, covering the work of youth justice services at different stages. The importance of building relationships and strong multi-agency working, with effective communication and systematic exchanging of information, is clearly set out. A range of services need to be available which are accessible, responsive, flexible and sustainable, with all agencies working together in partnership, supporting a whole-child approach.

The section begins with a review of the evidence in relation to preventative work, diversion, and out-of-court disposals. Importantly, these areas of work should be seen as distinct and materially different to one another.
